Preshil is a coeducational, secular and private school in Kew, Melbourne, welcoming children from kindergarten through to the completion of their secondary schooling in Year 12.
Founded in 1931, it is Australia’s oldest progressive school, and has played an influential role in the development of progressive pedagogy globally. The Preshil approach to schooling emphasises the relationships between teachers and students that engages children’s intrinsic desire to learn and does not use the fear of failure or the threat of punishment to motivate them. The rapport between students and their teachers is relaxed, respectful, reciprocal, and focused on achieving a life-long love for learning.
Preshil intertwines long-standing traditions with innovative programs. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, Preshil’s accredited IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes align with the school’s focus on intellectual challenge, inquiry, and research-based learning. These programmes accommodate individual choice and independent learning and encourage students to develop the “courage to question”.
