Harkaway Hills College is seeking a Science Laboratory Technician for commencement on August 2026. The College appoints staff who are energetic, innovative and committed to the ethos of our school. The Role

Harkaway Hills College is seeking an organised, proactive and safety-conscious Science Laboratory Technician to join our growing Secondary School team. This part-time position (0.6 FTE) will commence in mid-August 2026. 

With 370 students from Early Years to Year 11, a strong academic culture, and our first VCE cohort preparing for Year 12 in 2027, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our expanding Science program. 

The successful applicant will play a vital role in supporting practical Science learning by preparing laboratory materials and equipment, maintaining laboratory facilities, ensuring compliance with safety requirements, and assisting teachers in delivering engaging and effective practical experiences.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes include:

·         Prepare equipment, chemicals, specimens and materials required for practical classes and demonstrations. 

  • Assist Science teachers in planning and delivering practical investigations. 
  • Ensure chemicals and hazardous substances are stored and handled in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice. 
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical registers. 
  • Manage the safe disposal of chemical, biological and general laboratory waste. 
  • Purchase laboratory supplies and maintain adequate stock levels. 
  • Maintain equipment inventories and records. 
  • Assist with documentation related to risk assessments and laboratory safety procedures. 

Selection Criteria 

Essential 

  • Experience working in a science laboratory, educational laboratory, research environment or related field. 
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling and risk management. 

Desirable 

  • Relevant qualifications in laboratory technology, science, applied science or a related discipline. 
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualifications. 
  • Experience working in a school environment.
