Job Description

We are looking for a proactive, strategic leader and commercial business partner to be the deputy to our Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO). Being Jewish is not a prerequisite for employment, although a worldview that is sympathetic to the Jewish ethos is essential. Some knowledge of the Jewish Culture would be advantageous.

As the College prepares for our once-in-generations relocation to Caulfield, this role will have the unique opportunity to be a true business partner for the school and support the CFOO in their decision making, by providing relevant reports and data to support decisions. The Head of Finance will build the financial and administrative frameworks required for this transition, making this a defining role for an energetic leader looking to make a lasting impact during this evolution. This position is designed to evolve as the College’s operational complexity grows. 

As the Head of Finance, you will lead a dedicated team overseeing the day-to-day financial operations and the School Information System (TASS) while identifying and implementing robust internal controls.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Financial Stewardship: Managing the annual budget process, monthly management reporting for the Audit Risk Finance Committee (ARF), and overseeing government funding and audit requirements.

  • Process Integrity: Upholding the College’s financial policies by maintaining expenditure accountability. You will ensure that all claims and reimbursements meet established evidentiary requirements before approval.

  • Operational Oversight: Managing the Accounts Payable function, payroll verification, and the review of credit card and petty cash arrangements.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Working closely with the CFOO, Deputy Principals, and Department Heads to provide specialist support and ensure high standards of financial governance.

  • Strategic Business Partnering: Act as a business partner to Campus Heads and Deputy Principals, providing financial insights that inform educational strategies and operational decisions.

  • Data Evolution: Lead the transformation of raw data into "sophisticated KPIs" and reporting suites using TASS to provide the story behind the numbers’

  • Process Engineering: Conduct ongoing reviews of finance operations to identify and implement"best-practice internal controls and efficiencies

  • Project Generation (Caulfield Move): Evolve the financial modeling, risk assessment, and administrative framework design for the campus consolidation

We are seeking an individual who is not just technically proficient but also energetic and forward-thinking. You should be someone who:

  • Is proactive in identifying areas for improving effectiveness and efficiency within a finance team.

  • Communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders to improve service delivery.

  • Has experience in leading and managing a team of people

Qualifications and Experience

You will be degree qualified in Accounting or Business, with a CA/CPA qualification ; with a strong background in accounting/finance with proficiency in internal controls and advanced spreadsheeting. Experience within an educational environment is an advantage, but not essential.

  • Experience with TASS or similar school-specific software is highly desirable. Proficiency in both Microsoft Office and Google Suite is preferred. 

  • A current Working With Children Check, a Victorian Driver’s Licence, and a recent Police Check (or the willingness to obtain) are mandatory.
