Violin/Viola Teacher

Lauriston Girls’ School seeks to employ an experienced and enthusiastic Teacher of Violin/Viola for approximately 2-2.5 days per week.  

The role:

This casual position includes approximately 2.25 hours per week of group Violin/Viola tuition as part of the year-long Years 2-3 Strings Program and approximately 8 hours of private Violin/Viola tuition.

The Years 2-3 Strings Program includes 3x45 minute weekly sessions each week. Availability to teach between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Tuesdays is essential.

The private tuition component of the role may be split across multiple days. Preferred days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a dynamic, innovative, and motivating Violin/Viola specialist, with demonstrated experience teaching beginner to advanced level musicians
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with the Head of Stringed Instruments to inspire student engagement in the school’s Orchestral Program and support the recruitment of strings students
  • Have experience working within a Junior Strings Program context and demonstrated ability to manage small groups of students
  • Encourage student involvement in the school’s co-curricular Orchestral Ensemble Programs, in order to develop the strings culture at Lauriston
  • Have a clear understanding of the relevant examination syllabi and be willing to incorporate technology and other elements of contemporary curriculum into their lessons.
  • Utilise a range of strategies and skills to engage young musicians, supporting them to develop an intrinsic interest in the study of Violin/Viola
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with families, utilising appropriate methods of communication to ensure students can be supported to practise successfully at home
  • Willingness to be involved as a tutor or conductor within the School’s Ensemble Program would be looked upon favourably
  • Experience teaching within a Kodály framework is highly desirable

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A collaborative teaching approach is essential for working as a member of the Lauriston Music Department
  • A current VIT registration or Working with Children Check (Employee) is required
