Head of Operations

  • Mount Scopus Memorial College

Job Description

Mount Scopus Memorial College is one of the world’s most respected co-educational Jewish Day Schools. Operating across three campuses in Melbourne with over 1,400 students, we provide an environment that promotes academic excellence, inquiry, and critical thinking. We are committed to a supportive environment underpinned by respectful relationships and modern Orthodox and Zionist values.

We are seeking a proactive, strategic and operationally focused leader to partner with our Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO). Being Jewish is not a prerequisite for employment, although a worldview that is sympathetic to the Jewish ethos is essential. Some knowledge of Jewish culture would be advantageous.

As the College prepares for its once-in-generations consolidation to a new Caulfield campus, this role presents a unique opportunity to shape the operational framework of a leading independent school. The Head of Operations will play a critical role in ensuring that the College’s physical environment, services and risk frameworks support the delivery of outstanding educational outcomes.

This position is designed to evolve as the College’s operational complexity grows and will suit an energetic leader looking to make a lasting impact during a significant period of transformation.

As Head of Operations, you will provide leadership across the College’s operational infrastructure, including property and facilities, risk and compliance, the Besen Family Performing Arts Centre (BPAC), and key external service providers.

We are seeking a leader who is not only operationally capable but also strategic, commercial and forward-thinking.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Operational Leadership: Deliver efficient, high-quality operational services aligned to College strategy;

  • Facilities & Campus Operations: Oversee buildings, grounds, maintenance and contractor performance across all campuses;

  • Risk & Compliance: Lead operational risk, safety and compliance frameworks. Work collaboratively with the Security Manager across all aspects of emergency management;

  • Procurement & Suppliers: Manage key supplier relationships, contracts and tender processes to ensure value and service quality;

  • Travel & Transport: Oversee bus services and travel logistics with strong duty-of-care and cost control;

  • BPAC Oversight: Provide governance and strategic direction for the Besen Performing Arts Centre;

  • Strategic Collaboration: Working closely with the CFOO, Deputy Principals, and Department Heads to provide specialist support and ensure high standards of operational performance; and

  • Project Generation (Move to Caulfield): Lead operational planning, systems and service delivery frameworks to support campus consolidation.

Qualifications and Experience

You will ideally hold tertiary qualifications in operations management, facilities management, business or a related discipline (preferred but not essential), with a strong background in leading complex operational environments.

You will bring proven experience managing facilities, contractors and multi-site services, underpinned by a strong understanding of risk management, workplace health and safety, and operational compliance frameworks. Experience in procurement, supplier management and contract oversight will be highly regarded.

You will demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across both operational and academic settings, and bring a commercial mindset focused on driving efficiency, value and service excellence.

Experience within an educational environment or similarly complex organisation is advantageous but not essential.

A current Working With Children Check, Victorian Driver’s Licence, and National Police Check (or the willingness to obtain) are mandatory.
