Job Description

Carey is seeking enthusiastic and adaptable Casual Relief Teachers – APS Sports to support the delivery of our Junior School sporting program across our Kew, Donvale and Bulleen campuses.

Reporting to the Head of Sport – Junior School, you will provide reliable supervision and support for sporting activities and events when regular staff are unavailable. This is a great opportunity for teachers who enjoy sport, working with young people and being part of a dynamic school environment.

The role:

As a Casual Relief Teacher – APS Sports, you will help ensure our sporting activities and events run safely and smoothly while providing students with a positive, structured and engaging experience.

You will support students to participate confidently in physical activity and competitive sport while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship and positive relationships.

The APS Program operates each Wednesday and Thursday, with standard hours of 12:30pm–3:30pm. On occasion, an earlier start time of 12:15pm may be required.

The role involves a range of responsibilities associated with the delivery of the APS Sports Program, including sports coaching, umpiring and supporting the wellbeing and supervision of students.

Successful candidates will also be required to download relevant applications to their personal mobile device and have their device readily accessible while working to support program communication and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising students during sporting activities, training sessions and events.
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students at all times and following relevant safety procedures and risk management requirements.
  • Supporting the organisation and smooth running of APS sporting events and activities.
  • Working collaboratively with the Head of Sport, teaching staff and other colleagues to coordinate activities and events.
  • Maintaining accurate student attendance and participation records as required.
  • Providing clear expectations and positive supervision to encourage student engagement, teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Ensuring students are appropriately supervised when travelling between or participating across Carey sporting locations.
  • Responding appropriately to incidents or student wellbeing concerns and following Carey policies and procedures.

 

What do I need to succeed?

We are looking for teachers who are enthusiastic about sport and confident working with Junior School students in a casual relief capacity.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Strong knowledge and enthusiasm for a range of sports and games.
  • The ability to confidently supervise and engage groups of students.
  • A strong commitment to student safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to different sporting activities, groups and environments.
  • Confidence using digital communication tools.
  • An understanding of contemporary teaching practices and the individual needs of students.
  • Alignment with the vision, values and Christian ethos of Carey Baptist Grammar School.
