Primary Music Teacher (2027)

(Part-time 0.55 FTE, Fixed Term Contract - Armstrong Creek)

Geelong Lutheran College is seeking a creative, vibrant and innovative Primary Music Teacher to join our dedicated and dynamic primary team in 2027.

About the Role

This opportunity is a fixed term, part-time role commencing January (Term 1) 2027 to December 2027 (3 days per week – 0.55 FTE).

The successful applicant will possess the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to deliver a comprehensive and engaging primary music program. They will inspire students to develop a lifelong appreciation of music while fostering confidence, creativity and performance skills.

As a member of our professional and collaborative teaching team, you will:

  • Design and deliver engaging Music lessons using contemporary teaching practices.
  • Develop students' musical knowledge, understanding and skills through varied and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Foster creativity, self-expression and a love of music in students.
  • Incorporate vocal, instrumental and performance opportunities into the Music program.
  • Utilise digital technologies and innovative teaching approaches to enhance student learning.
  • Assess and monitor student progress and implement effective teaching strategies.
  • Create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the College through performances, concerts and other musical activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential requirements include:

  • A Bachelor of Education (or equivalent teaching qualification).
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Registration, or eligibility for registration.
  • Recognised Music qualifications and demonstrated experience teaching Music in a primary school setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing and inclusive education.
  • The ability to create engaging and inclusive learning environments.

 Desirable experience and skills include:

  • Experience leading and directing school choirs.
  • Instrumental music experience and the ability to support a range of musical learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of technology and ICT to enhance learning.
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) or similar inquiry-based learning approaches.

Position Details

  • Fixed term, part-time, 0.55 FTE - 3 days per week
  • Commencing Term 1 2027 – 12-month contract.
  • GLC Armstrong Creek campus
