Job Description

The School

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School has over 3000 students from K-12 at campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon and Keilor East. We have outstanding staff, facilities and programmes to enhance student well-being and learning and develop courageous, creative, curious, ethical, persistent, reflective and strategic thinkers. PEGS promotes the safety, well-being and participation of all students, including supporting children from culturally diverse backgrounds and those with individual needs.

Outdoor Education is an integral part of the curriculum and aims to develop teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.

The School provides a diamond education, with a co-educational Kindergarten programme, single-sex education at the Junior Schools and Middle Schools from Years 7 to 10 and co-education at the Larkin Centre from Years 11 to 12.

The Role

We seek energetic, skilled and qualified casual Outdoor Education Teachers to work together with a team of committed educators at the school's Eildon Camp in a casual capacity during the 2026 school year. The days of work would be predominately Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during Term time. There will be accommodation onsite for the Tuesday and Wednesday night if required.

Casual Relief Teachers work collaboratively within the team of Outdoor Education Teachers to assist in the delivery of a program that supports student care and wellbeing and the School’s Culture of Thinking.

The Outdoor Education program runs camps at Eildon to support the educational and personal development of students, typically from Years 3 to 10. Students enjoy a wide range of activities which include orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, initiative games and high and low rope courses. The program develops teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.

 Applicants will have the following:

  • Teaching qualifications and VIT registration
  • Experience in the range of program activities offered would be preferred, with accreditation in ropes and wilderness first aid an advantage
  • A commitment to child safety and student welfare, including demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • A current driver's licence
