Job Description

The Casual School Nurse will work across Carey campuses, including Kew, Donvale and Bulleen, with the possibility of attending school camps at various locations.

The role involves triaging students who present to First Aid, conducting nursing assessments, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records, and supporting the restocking and distribution of first aid kits.

The School Nurse also forms part of the School’s emergency response procedures, supporting staff to deliver safe and appropriate care in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, the role assists in ensuring first aid facilities and supplies are maintained in a professional and safe manner.

Applicants must hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and have a minimum of two years’ clinical experience post-registration. Please note, this role is not open to Enrolled Nurses.

The Average Day:
  • Complete initial assessments and triage accordingly students and staff presenting to First Aid
  • Attend medical call outs across the school
  • Assist in the running, cleaning and provision of the First Aid area and its facilities
  • Communicate via phone, email or in-person with families and staff, as required
  • Providing general administration, as required 
  • Ensure medical information is correctly recorded 
  • Complete stocktakes of first aid supplies, as required
  • Assist with ordering of stock, as required
  • Review shared email inbox
  • Complete handover to other nursing staff 
  • Complete Incident Forms, as required
  • Use and update online systems for communication and medical entries
The Person: 
To be successful in this position, you will have: 
  • Current, unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical practice
  • Paediatric Experience in a critical care setting will with highly regarded 
  • First Aid, CPR & Anaphylaxis certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • Registered Anaphylaxis verifier (22579VIC)
  • Comfortable in administering intranasal midazolam (desirable)
  • Diabetes in Schools – Level 1 & 2 (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience in emergency services is highly desirable 
  • Understanding of OHS in a school setting
A valid Employee Working with Children Check is a requirement of employment for this position.
