Job Description

ELTHAM College is seeking an outstanding and highly accomplished English Teacher to join our College.

This is a full-time position commencing Term 1, 2027. Part-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and versatile educator who can teach English across Years 7–12, while bringing a strong track record in VCE Units 3 & 4, exceptional subject knowledge and a demonstrated ability to inspire students and achieve outstanding VCE results. We are looking for a teacher who combines high expectations with engaging, contemporary teaching practices and who is passionate about supporting students at every stage to achieve their academic potential while developing a genuine love of English.

About the opportunity

You will be an enthusiastic and accomplished English teacher who can:

  • Deliver engaging, challenging and contemporary VCE English programs.

  • Teach engaging and purposeful English classes across Years 7–10, building students’ confidence, curiosity and foundational literacy skills.

  • Demonstrate substantial experience teaching VCE Units 3 & 4 English.

  • Have a proven record of strong VCE results and student achievement.

  • Develop students' critical thinking, analytical, written and oral communication skills.

  • Inspire students to engage deeply with texts, ideas and perspectives.

  • Use effective assessment and feedback practices to support student growth and achievement.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop high-quality curriculum and learning experiences.

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students and contribute to the broader life of the College.

About you

We are looking for a teacher who brings:

  • Relevant teaching qualifications and VIT registration.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching VCE English Units 3 & 4.

  • The versatility and enthusiasm to teach across Years 7–12, including the ability to inspire and engage younger English students and nurture a lasting enjoyment of reading, writing and discussion.

  • A strong understanding of VCE assessment requirements and curriculum expectations.

  • Demonstrated outstanding VCE student results and achievement.

  • A sophisticated understanding of how to prepare students for SACs, examinations and the demands of VCE English.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A passion for English, literature, language and the development of young people.

  • A commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and high expectations.

  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to a dynamic and innovative teaching environment.
