Ranges TEC is seeking a passionate and experienced Trade Trainer – Engineering to join our team for Term 2, 2027. This fixed-term position is offered at 0.45 FTE for Term 2 only and provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to share their trade knowledge, practical skills and industry experience with young people.

Based at our Christian vocational training campus in Melbourne’s outer east, you will play an important role in delivering engaging, hands-on engineering training while supporting students to develop practical skills, workplace readiness and positive character.

As a Trade Trainer – Engineering, you will deliver training in 22632VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies, creating a practical and supportive workshop environment where students can develop their technical competencies and discover their God-given gifts and potential.

Your industry expertise, combined with a genuine passion for working with young people, will help students build confidence, develop valuable trade skills and gain a biblical understanding of work, stewardship and service.

The Role

As a Trade Trainer – Engineering, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on engineering training and assessment within a safe, well-organised and engaging workshop environment.

You will develop and implement learning and assessment programs for 22632VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies, ensuring training and assessment meets relevant course requirements, quality standards and Ranges TEC expectations.

You will also play an important role in mentoring students, supporting their wellbeing and work readiness, and helping them understand the value of their developing trade skills.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, industry contacts and Ranges TEC support teams, you will contribute to a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to grow in skill, confidence and character.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, practical training and assessment for 22632VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies in accordance with course and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, implement and review learning programs, training plans and assessment activities.
• Provide students with clear instruction, practical demonstrations and constructive feedback to support their learning and development.
• Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress and assessment in accordance with Ranges TEC requirements.
• Ensure assessment practices meet relevant requirements, including the principles of assessment and rules of evidence.
• Maintain current industry knowledge, vocational competency and trainer/assessor currency.
• Create and maintain a safe, organised and well-equipped engineering workshop, including appropriate management of tools, machinery, materials and PPE.
• Promote high standards of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Duty of Care and workshop safety.
• Support students with pastoral care, student wellbeing and work readiness.
• Work collaboratively with the Work Experience Coordinator to support student work experience and trade placements, including workplace visits where required.
• Participate in student Roundtables, staff meetings, professional learning and the wider life of the Ranges TEC community.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering training programs and curriculum documentation.
• Participate in the spiritual life of Ranges TEC, including staff devotions and prayer.

Key Selection Criteria

• A professing and practising Christian who actively aligns with the Christian ethos and values of Ranges TEC.
• Relevant trade/vocational qualifications in Engineering.
• Current TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or equivalent.
• Vocational competency at least to the level being delivered and assessed.
• Current VIT registration or eligibility for appropriate VET trainer registration.
• Demonstrated current industry skills and experience relevant to engineering training and assessment.
• Demonstrated understanding and application of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Duty of Care within a trade training environment.
• An understanding of Christian education and a genuine passion for helping young people develop their God-given gifts.
• Strong communication, organisational and administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team.
• A flexible, proactive and servant-hearted approach to working with students.
• Commitment to workplace safety, continuous improvement and Christian stewardship.
