ABOUT THE ROLE

The Risk & Compliance Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring our school operates in a safe, compliant, and ethically responsible environment.  Reporting directly to the Risk & Compliance Manager, you will assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the school’s overall risk management and compliance frameworks.

You will ensure our systems, processes, and culture support full regulatory compliance across critical areas, including Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), Emergency Management, Incident Management, and Privacy.

Child Safety is at the heart of everything we do. You will champion a transparent, accountable culture that aligns with Child Safe Standards and equips staff, students, and parents to keep our community safe.

This is a full time permanent position.

ABOUT YOU

You are a proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented professional who brings a structured approach to guiding risk, health, and safety across the workplace. With a strong commitment to regulatory compliance and a talent for cross-functional collaboration, you excel at translating complex frameworks into practical, everyday safety and risk practices that protect and empower our school community.

You are a natural relationship-builder capable of influencing key stakeholders and an engaging communicator who takes pride in fostering a proactive safety culture through clear training, effective emergency preparedness, and compassionate injury management.  You are also equally comfortable conducting hands-on risk assessments for campus operations and off-site excursions as you are working on key safety and welfare committees.  You combine your insight into evolving legislation with the operational drive needed to keep our school community safe, prepared, and fully compliant.

Knowledge & skills

• Experience: Background in risk management, workplace health and safety (OH&S), regulatory compliance, or quality assurance (preferably within the education or non-profit sector).
• Child Safety Focus: In-depth understanding of Child Safe Standards, child protection frameworks, and reporting obligations.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Strong familiarity with OH&S legislation, risk frameworks, and privacy laws.
• Communication & Facilitation: Proven ability to deliver engaging training, guide department leaders, and build a positive safety culture.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
• Incident & Claim Handling: Hands-on experience managing workplace injury processes and WorkCover claims.
• Planning: Outstanding planning, organisational and time-management skills.

• Relevant qualifications.
• Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
• National Crime Check.

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to meeting the unique needs of students with disabilities or other specific challenges.

Modelling Ethical Conduct:

• Exhibit professional behaviour that aligns with the school’s values and child safety standards.
• Lead by example to foster a culture of trust, respect, and accountability.
