Director of Outdoor Education

• Ongoing Teaching Position with a three Year, Fixed-Term Position of Responsibility (POR) appointment  
• Commencing Term 4 2026 or by negotiation 

Melbourne Girls Grammar seeks an outstanding educational leader to lead our Outdoor Education program from Prep to Year 12. 

Reporting to the Head of Health and Physical Education, the Director of Outdoor Education will provide strategic leadership, oversee program delivery and operations, and create transformative learning experiences that empower students to develop confidence, resilience, leadership and wellbeing. 

The Director of Outdoor Education will regularly participate in camps, expeditions and outdoor activities and must be able to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role. 

About the Role:

The Director of Outdoor Education will:

• Design, implement and continually enhance a sequential Prep to Year 12 Outdoor Education framework. 
  
• Lead the planning and delivery of camps, expeditions, hikes and other experiential learning opportunities. 
  
• Attend and lead a wide variety of camps and excursions throughout the school year. 
  
• Foster student wellbeing, resilience, leadership, environmental stewardship and personal growth through outdoor experiences. 
  
• Build strong partnerships with students, families, staff, industry partners, land managers and external providers. 
  
• Lead, mentor and support Outdoor Education staff and camp teams. 
  
• Lead and grow co-curricular Outdoor Education opportunities, including Duke of Edinburgh and other student enrichment programs. 
  
• Ensure best practice risk management, compliance and safety standards across all programs. 
  
• Oversee operational planning, logistics, budgeting and resource management. 
  
• Use data, feedback and program evaluation to inform continuous improvement and future program development. 
  
• The Director of Outdoor Education will be required to teach relevant sessions within HPE, Wellbeing and related programs, or undertake other duties as directed.

About you:

You will be a passionate and highly organised educational leader with significant experience managing complex Outdoor Education programs. You bring: 

• Demonstrated success designing, implementing and leading Outdoor Education programs within a school setting. 
  
• Demonstrated ability to integrate Outdoor Education cohesively into HPE and Wellbeing curriculum programs. 
  
• Comprehensive knowledge of risk management and safety practices in outdoor settings. 
  
• A strong understanding of experiential learning and adolescent development. 
  
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting and operational management. 
  
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across a school community. 
  
• Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and developing staff. 
  
• Experience coordinating remote and multi-day expeditions and camps. 
  
• A passion for empowering young people through challenge, adventure and connection with the natural world.

Qualifications:

• Teaching qualifications and current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
• Relevant Outdoor Education qualifications.
• Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 CPR qualifications.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence.
