Science Laboratory Technician

Job Description

Melbourne Girls Grammar is seeking a highly organised and enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our Science Department for a fixed-term leave replacement for the duration of Term 4 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career candidates to support the delivery of engaging and high-quality practical science programs for students in Years 5–12.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the STEM Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting teaching staff and ensuring the effective operation of science laboratories.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare, test and set up experiments, practical activities and demonstrations
  • Provide in-class support during practical lessons as required
  • Maintain laboratories, equipment and scientific resources
  • Manage stock, purchasing and inventory systems
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain laboratory records, documentation and digital resources
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to enhance practical learning experiences

Skills and Experience:

  • You are a proactive and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative school environment. You will bring:
  • Experience supporting science laboratories (school-based experience highly regarded)
  • Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • High-level digital literacy (Microsoft Office; Synergetic experience advantageous)
  • A positive, flexible and team-oriented approach
  • A commitment to maintaining safe laboratory practices

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Science, particularly in Biology
  • Victorian Working With Children Check (Employee) is required prior to commencement.
  • Driver’s licence to collect supplies and materials.
