Position Summary

Fintona is currently seeking a compassionate, experienced and proactive School Counsellor to join our school. This is an exciting, part-time opportunity to work across ELC to Year 12, supporting students' mental health, wellbeing, personal growth and resilience within a caring and connected school community.

Working closely with the School Psychologist, School Leadership Team, teachers, parents and external professionals, the School Counsellor plays a key role in helping students navigate challenges, build positive relationships and develop the skills they need to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. 

Key Responsibilities

In particular, the School Counsellor will:

  • Provide individual and small-group counselling support to students from ELC to Year 12
  • Identify and respond to students experiencing social, emotional, wellbeing or mental health challenges
  • Collaborate with staff, parents and external professionals to support student wellbeing and development
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of student wellbeing and personal development programs
  • Deliver workshops, presentations and information sessions
  • Support child safety initiatives and mandatory reporting requirements
  • Provide professional guidance and consultation to staff regarding student wellbeing, development and child safety matters.

About You

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant will possess:

  • Bachelor level qualification in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology with eligibility for membership of relevant professional body
  • Counselling experience supporting young people and families, including working with students experiencing mental health, behavioural, social and emotional challenges 
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders
  • Experience leading and supporting wellbeing initiatives, programs and activities that promote student engagement, resilience and positive development
  • High levels of professionalism, emotional intelligence and integrity, including the ability to sensitively manage confidential information
  • A collaborative, proactive and organised approach
  • Strong knowledge of student wellbeing, child safety and safeguarding, including Victorian Child Safe Standards and mandatory reporting requirements.
