Job Description

The Role: 

The Chief Examination Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and compliant delivery of VCE and IB examinations at Carey. This position is responsible for the effective, secure and professional supervision of examinations in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) examination rules and procedures.

Working closely with the school’s examination team, the Chief Examination Supervisor ensures all examinations are conducted with integrity, consistency and fairness, providing students with a calm and well-managed assessment environment.

The Average Day:
  • Leading and supervising a team of examination supervisors to ensure examinations run smoothly and in accordance with VCAA and IB regulations.
  • Overseeing the set-up and operation of examination venues, including seating plans, materials, signage and approved resources.
  • Managing the secure handling, distribution and return of examination papers and materials.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact during examinations, responding to incidents, irregularities or student enquiries in line with examination protocols.
  • Liaising with the VCE Coordinator, IB Chief Supervisor and school staff regarding absentees, late arrivals and special examination arrangements.
  • Completing required administration and reporting, including supervision coordination and compliance documentation.
The Person: 
To be successful in this position, you will have: 
  • Previous experience in coordinating and supervising examinations within a high school or tertiary environment (desirable)
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Understanding of VCAA/IBO protocol and procedures
  • Teaching accreditation or relevant practice/experience (desirable)
  • Anaphylaxis Accreditation (based on Ministerial order 706) or willingness to obtain
  • Child Safety Mandatory reporting certificate or willingness to obtain
  • First Aid Level 2 & CPR (desirable) or willingness to obtain
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Efficient time management skills
  • Ability to take responsibility and to make quick, well-judged decisions, often under pressure

The VCAA requirements to be a Chief Exam Supervisor, state that you are not:

  • Related to, or associated with, any student required to sit the GAT or any student undertaking a VCE Unit 3 or 4 study in 2026.
  • Teaching or tutoring any student required to sit the GAT or any student undertaking a VCE Unit 3 or 4 study in 2026.
  • Related to or associated with any person engaged in teaching, tutoring or coaching any students required to sit the GAT, any students undertaking a VCE Unit 3 or 4 study in 2026, or any school personnel engaged in organising or checking VCE external assessment materials on behalf of a school in 2026.
  • Employed at the school in any other capacity, including as a teacher, casual relief teacher (CRT) or member of the administration staff.

Our key 2026 dates for examinations requiring availability are as follows:

Semester 1 Internal exams: Friday 5 - Thursday 18 June 

GAT: Tuesday 16 June 

Trial Examinations: Wednesday 23 September – Friday 2 October 

Semester 2 External exams:  Monday 26 October – Wednesday 18 November 

Semester 2 Internal exams: Tuesday 17 November – Friday 27 November
