The College

Worawa Aboriginal College is a vision-led, Aboriginal-owned and governed organisation dedicated to empowering young Aboriginal women through education, culture and connection.

Located on a beautiful 136-acre property in the Yarra Valley, approximately 60 kilometres from Melbourne CBD, Worawa is a boarding school for Aboriginal girls in their secondary years of schooling, with students coming from communities across Australia.

At the heart of the College is a strong commitment to Aboriginal culture, identity and self-determination, and to supporting young Aboriginal women to leave Worawa confident in who they are, where they want to go and what they can contribute.

The Worawa Way pedagogy model is based on the Aboriginal values of Relationship, Responsibility, Respect and Rigour. The curriculum has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, while providing broad learning experiences and supporting the individual learning and growth of every student.

The Role

As Head of Teaching and Learning, you will have the opportunity to shape the educational experience of Worawa students and lead an Academic Team committed to seeing every student grow and succeed.

Working closely with the Executive Director / Principal, you will provide strategic and operational leadership of the College's academic program, building teaching quality, strengthening professional practice and creating the conditions for students to achieve meaningful individual growth.

You will lead and develop teachers and learning support staff, drive teaching quality and professional practice, and oversee curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting across Years 7–10 and VCE Vocational Major. A strong focus of the role is supporting individual student growth through personalised learning, academic interventions and the effective use of student data.

You will also oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the academic program, including timetabling, staffing, academic systems, compliance and reporting.

This is a full-time leadership position with no permanent teaching load, providing the opportunity to focus on leading the Academic Team and the College's teaching and learning program. Classroom relief may be provided from time to time where required.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Current VIT registration and appropriate teaching qualifications.
• Demonstrated educational leadership experience and the ability to lead, support and develop staff.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary teaching practice, curriculum, assessment and the use of student data to improve learning outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to support diverse student learning needs through differentiated and individualised approaches.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.
• Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Sound knowledge of educational compliance, child safety and reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated understanding of and respect for Aboriginal cultures, histories and communities and commitment to Aboriginal-led education and self-determination.
