Job Description

Head of Sport and Coaching (12-Month Fixed-Term Opportunity) 

  • Melbourne Girls Grammar – Artemis Programs 

  • Full-Time, Fixed-Term appointment (12 Months) 

  • Commencing September 2026 or by negotiation 

Reporting to the Executive Director, Artemis Programs, this is an opportunity to lead one of Australia's most progressive girls' school sport programs and continue the development of people, programs and systems that shape the future of sport at Melbourne Girls Grammar. 

Leading sport across the School, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of programs, working alongside a talented team of Heads of Program and coaches to create outstanding sporting experiences that inspire lifelong participation, personal growth and the pursuit of excellence. 

The successful candidate will lead a culture where participation and performance are equally valued, coaches are developed as educators and leaders, and students are challenged to thrive through sport. 

The role is responsible for leading a high-performing coaching workforce, strengthening student leadership, building meaningful partnerships within and beyond the School community, and driving the continued growth, innovation and sustainability of the MGGS sport program.

About the Role:

  • Lead one of Australia's most progressive girls' school sport programs, continuing the development of people, programs and systems that shape the future of sport at MGGS.  

  • Inspire, develop and support a talented team of Heads of Program and more than 200 coaches, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement. 

  • Champion coach development through structured professional learning, mentoring and innovative university partnerships, including Deakin University and Richmond Institute.  

  • Shape exceptional sporting experiences that promote participation, personal growth and high performance, while supporting the development of the multi-sport schoolgirl athlete.  

  • Build meaningful partnerships with students, families, universities, sporting organisations and the broader community to strengthen opportunities for students and coaches.  

  • Lead strategic program review and innovation, ensuring MGGS sport continues to evolve in response to emerging practice and the needs of young women.  

  • Provide leadership across governance, workforce planning, operational delivery and resource management to ensure high-quality, safe and sustainable programs.  

  • Contribute as a key member of the Artemis Programs leadership team, helping shape the future direction of sport and physical activity at Melbourne Girls Grammar.

About you:

You are a dynamic and experienced sport leader with the ability to manage a diverse, multi-program portfolio. You bring: 

  • Demonstrated leadership experience across multiple sport programs. 

  • Strong understanding of athlete development pathways and school sport systems.

  • Experience leading and developing coaching teams.

  • Ability to manage complexity across different sports, stakeholders and seasons.

  • Excellent communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.

  • A collaborative mindset, with initiative, integrity and professionalism.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Sport, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Coaching or a related field. 

  • Relevant coaching accreditations and strong applied coaching knowledge.
